How to Support the Immune System

and protect yourself in the Cold Season

The way we live and work can have a bearing on the condition of our immune systems. Stress, pollutants, chemicals and other factors can destroy cells. The immune system is in a constant battle with these enemies.

It is estimated that over 80% of us suffer from stress at work or at home. (Reference: Institute of Optimum Nutrition Survey - 2006)

Stress and overwork will affect the immune system's overall health.

Thirty years ago many of us led less stressful lives, and we had far fewer pollutants and chemicals in the atmosphere.

It is now estimated that the average human body has over 500 different chemicals, synthetic hormones and pollutants affecting the health of the human body.

As with any 'machine', put too high a demand on it and it could 'break', or at the very least, it won't operate at peak efficiency.

Being run down means that we are much more likely to pick up a few colds or bouts of flu, or other infections.

Therefore, it is important to follow a healthy lifestyle and good diet, with an adequate supply of vitamins and minerals.

More and more it's being shown that supplementation can help protect our health, and one of the most beneficial immune foods is Colostrum.

Indeed, Colostrum provides over 90 different vitamins, minerals, amino acids and other nutrients - and most importantly, certain proteins called immunoglobulins - or IgG for short.

The easiest way to boost the immune system is to supplement and boost the natural supply of antibodies. Antibodies belong to a family of large protein molecules known as immunoglobulins.

IgG, the major immunoglobulin in the blood, becomes vital for good immune health.

Remember, an immune system is a collection of mechanisms within an organism that protects us against diseases by identifying and killing pathogens. It detects a wide variety of agents, from bacteria, fungi, viruses - even parasitic worms - and needs to distinguish them from the organism's own healthy cells and tissues in order to then act properly and ensure the body remains fit and healthy.

Another immune protective agent is Lactoferrin, which may turn out to be one of the most effective allies of the body's immune system. Lactoferrin binds with iron and deprives harmful bacteria of this essential resource and so inhibits their chances of surviving and multiplying.

Lactoferrin is also believed to suppress tumour growth and may soon find itself an integral part of many immune disorder treatments.

STOP PRESS !

New finds indicate that laughter produces increased levels of IgG. It is clear that there is something about laughter that causes the immune system to "turn on" metabolically and do more effectively what it is designed to do - promote health and wellness in the face of internal or external threats.  Seems it is true - a Happy Person is a Healthy Person.
