Holiday Remedies Everyone wants to relax and enjoy themselves on their holidays. To make sure that this is the case there are a few herbal remedies to pop into your holiday medical kit. Read about remedies for: For those who feel nervous about flying - how does something so big take off? - try Avena sativa. Ideally take for a week or so before the flight and during it, to keep the butterflies under control. To help sleep during a flight or in possibly noisy hotel rooms, Valerian-Hops Complex can be very helpful. Valerian-Hops Complex is also suitable for children over two years old. Alternatively, for adults, try Serotone. Ginger is a great herb for nausea. It's effective and works quickly to stop vomiting and help to ease feelings of nausea. Ginger also acts as a digestive tonic and especially digestion of fats, and speeds up the digestive processes. This will again help to reduce feelings of discomfort associated with any sickness, whether it has been caused by travelling, over indulgence or some 'dodgy' food. Another useful remedy is the delayed-release peppermint oil Pepogest. On the subject of 'dodgy' food, one of the biggest fears for those going on holiday is 'holiday tummy'. For anyone travelling to more risky areas, it's a good idea to prepare by taking some Biocidin (grapefruit seed extract) for a few days before travelling and throughout the trip. The anti-parasite, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties of Biocidin will help prevent (and treat) traveller's tummy. It's also available in liquid form to help disinfect fruit and vegetables, hands and toothbrushes. Also for travellers tummy some Tormentil Complex should be added to the holiday medical kit. This helps slow down the frequency of bowel movements and encourages the healing of the affected bowel. Tormentil Complex also contains Avena sativa described above, which helps to calm both the nervous system and an overactive digestion. Helpful for infective diarrhoea and holiday tummy, as well as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS - where diarrhoea is the main symptom), diverticulitis, colitis and Crohn's disease. And, of course, everyone will have their bottle of Echinacea on hand to ward off those summer colds. All that's left now is to wish you a carefree holiday. |
