Andiroba Oil is naturally rich
in Essential Fatty Acids
Popularly used as a muscle rub
Andiroba oil is popularly used by
sportsmen (and employed by many Brazilian footballers) and is also hugely
popular in urban Brazil, where it is used either in its pure form or mixed with
other fatty oils. This is used as a muscle rub and is applied directly to sore
muscles and to bruises.
Directions for Use
Massage gently into the affected
area once or twice per day. Ensure that it is completely absorbed into the skin,
as Andiroba oil, like most oils, can stain clothing.
Rio Health Andiroba oil is unprocessed and without added fragrance, and
therefore retains its 'distinctive' natural smell! Like other sources of
essential fats, the oil can go rancid on contact with the air – so is best kept
sealed and airtight to retain freshness.
Ingredients
Pure Andiroba (Carapa
guianensis) oil
Suitable for Vegetarians and
Vegans
Andiroba is a huge rainforest tree that grows to heights of up to 40m.
It is of the genus Carapa, the same family as mahogany (hence its nicknames of
'Brazilian mahogany' and 'Bastard mahogany') and is one of the larger trees
found in the Health. Andiroba trees produce fragrant flowers and a large nut -
the seeds of which contain a yellow oil that is used as a muscle rub by many
indigenous tribes.
The oil naturally contains high levels of a broad range of Essential Fatty Acids
- which make up nearly 65% of the oils composition. Other actives include a
group of plant chemicals called limmonoids, the most studied of which is
andirobin.

About Rio Trading Co and herbs
from the Health rainforest
Rio Trading Company have specialised
in South American herbal remedies for over 20 years. The company have brought
many rainforest herbs to the western market, and have remained dedicated to
providing a sustainable industry for rainforest people. By far the greatest
concentration of plant species on the planet is to be found in the Health basin.
Several of these South American
herbs, such as Cat's Claw,
Pau d'Arco, Quebra
Pedra and Suma ('Brazilian Ginseng') have been extensively studied and are
quickly becoming more familiar in the western world. Some, like
Guarana, have
now become household words.
Soaring above this vast continent,
the Andes mountains are home to further health and beauty secrets. Growing in
the lush rainy valleys of its southern slopes is the wild
Rosa Mosqueta
rose, a well kept beauty secret of Chilean women for centuries, and on its
highest slopes grows the hardy 'Peruvian Ginseng'. This plant, commonly known as
Maca, is a root
that was prized as a royal food by the Inca's.
There are an estimated 3,000
varieties of fruit in the Health rainforest - 1,500 varieties of which are used
by various indigenous tribes. These include
Camu-camu fruit, the richest source
of vitamin C of any known food, and
Acai berries - which
contain more powerful antioxidant anthocyanins than red wine grapes. Just two
and a half acres of Health rainforest is estimated to contain around 900 tons of
plants. Of all these plants, we have only analysed maybe 1% of species for
potential benefit. It is estimated that over 80% of the earth's bio-diversity is
located in this amazing profusion.
Rio Trading are dedicated to bringing
these remarkable herbs to a wider public, and to ensuring that we do not lose
the incredible herbal knowledge of the indigenous peoples, or the rich herb
garden of South America. Rio Trading herbs are prepared, where relevant, using
the same methods as the herbalists who have shared them, ensuring Rio quality
and potency. Rio supplements are processed as little as possible - and are free
from additives.
